IIT is seeking a highly motivated and creative candidate for a Post-Doctoral position to join the “Genetics of Cognition” Research Line, Neuroscience Area coordinated by Francesco Papaleo.
The successful candidate will be working on collaborative and multidisciplinary research projects to investigate the functional impact of selective alterations in astrocytes and/or microglia functioning in the expression and development of high-level social cognitive abilities in in vivo genetically modified models relevant to neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g. 22q11.2, 16p11.2, Williams syndrome etc.).
To achieve this goal, we will employ a combined approach strictly linking advanced behavioral outputs (complex social tasks including emotion recognition, cooperation, altruism, hierarchy, social reward etc.) with circuit-level manipulations using in vivo techniques of: chemo- and opto-genetics, miniscopes, fiberphotometry, and electrophysiology.
The candidate must have published at least a first-author paper and have a relevant PhD Degree or equivalent Degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Statistics, Medicine, Genetics, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Physics or comparable fields.
Interest and expertise in astrocytes and/or microglia implication in brain circuits will be highly valued.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required. Applicants are expected to have a strong research track record.
Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience and in line with international standards.
