Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centres: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics, and Health Data Science. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

HT is looking for a Senior Technician for the Advanced Cell Culture Unit in the Centre for Neurogenomics.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of tasks in support of different research projects and programs in the Centre for Neurogenomics, mainly focusing on human stem cell models for the study of neuropsychiatric and neurological diseases. They will be in charge of organizing and implementing the cell culture workflow in a rapidly developing environment on the cutting edge of research. They will operate under the supervision of senior scientists of the Centre for Neurogenomics under the scientific and managerial direction of the Head of the Centre for Neurogenomics, Giuseppe Testa.

She/he will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Planning and implementing the cell culture workflow, to guarantee the best standards and putting in place a quality control pipeline, with a strong focus on human stem cell neurobiology;
  • Generating and maintaining patient-derived cell lines banks, ensuring that all tissue culture users work according to best practices and health and safety guidelines and regulations;
  • Optimizing and scaling-up of protocols to perform cell culture experiments in high throughput systems;
  • Generating/importing, maintaining, and optimizing new experimental tools and protocols;
  • Live imaging of stem cells and organoids, including maintenance and operation of high content screening setup;
  • Generating reliable data for publications related to the projects to which they are assigned, recording all data and results in specified forms (with Electronic Lab Notebook and Laboratory Information Management System);
  • Providing technical support and supervision to other laboratory members, including introduction to and teaching of new laboratory techniques, supporting lab members on the use of lab equipment, as well as members from other laboratories of the centre;
  • Liaising with the Centre’s Lab Manager and other staff members to write risk assessments, SOPs and general lab rules, ensuring that they are regularly updated;
  • Participating in key aspects of general lab management and organization (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment, and materials), in coordination with HT core facilities and service units.

Job requirements

Preferential requirements:

  • Master degree in life sciences or related disciplines;
  • At least 5 years of proven experience as a cell culture research technician;
  • Track record in the following areas: advanced cell culture (preferably with human pluripotent stem cell lines, organoids, and primary neural cell cultures), Molecular Biology, Biochemistry;
  • Good experience in biobanking, protocols and workflow, including database platforms for cell lines management and repository;
  • Ability to set forecasts of reagents, costs, and time required to perform cell culture-based processes;
  • Previous experience in a cell factory will be considered a plus;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work independently;
  • Proven strong interpersonal skills, ability to lead and gain the assistance and cooperation of others in a team endeavor and with different research groups;
  • Ability to build trust through operating with transparency and creating an open and positive environment;
  • Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute;
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic work environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
