Organizational Setting

This position is located in the International Data Centre (IDC) Division that collects, processes and analyses monitoring data originating from the facilities of the International Monitoring System (IMS). These are based on four different sensor technologies (seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound and radionuclide).

Duties and Responsibilties

  • Be responsible for the supervision, training, coaching and certification of waveform analysts;
  • Manage and optimize schedules for analysts’ tasks to ensure efficient and timely production of reviewed IDC products in the waveform technologies;
  • Recommend and implement plans to enhance procedures, rules and guidelines for analysts’ tasks and for analysts’ certification;
  • Support the trainees from States Signatories in coordination with Capacity Building and Training Section (IDC/CBT);
  • Support the testing and evaluation of the IDC applications software in coordination with Software Applications Section (IDC/SA);
  • Perform interactive analysis of waveform technology data to detect, locate and characterize events as required and review the work of other analysts;
  • Interact as necessary with other sections and units in order to ensure smooth implementation of the operational tasks;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree in physics, geophysics, acoustics or a related field.

Work Experience

  • At least seven (7) years relevant working experience in global seismic or acoustic data analysis and familiarity with interactive computer analysis systems.

Languages

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential;
  • Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
