Job description:
IRAM is seeking highly motivated astronomers to work within the NOEMA Science Operations Group (SOG) at IRAM headquarters (Grenoble). The successful candidates will join a team of scientists and engineers and will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for astronomical research.
IRAM offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations and a stimulating work environment where scientists cover a whole range of research topics, encompassing ISM chemistry, planetary science, young stellar objects, late-stage stellar evolution, and extragalactic research spanning across low and high redshifts. IRAM expects the successful candidate to possess well-defined scientific interests, pursue scientific programs using the IRAM facilities, and invest up to 50% of the time on astronomical research.
The key responsibilities for the positions are:
- Contribute to NOEMA’s scientific operation as an astronomer on duty;
- Support the NOEMA user community in proposal preparation and offer technical expertise for data analysis and interpretation;
- Participate in the commissioning of NOEMA subsystems to meet operational requirements;
- Engage in initiatives to improve and expand the capabilities of the interferometer.
Required profile:
The SOG is looking for qualified candidates with a PhD, preferably with proven observational experience and a keen interest in (sub)millimeter wave interferometry. Excellent communication skills and a robust team spirit are essential. An aptitude for software development and prior work in an international research environment are desirable.
