Currently, we are actively seeking a motivated colleague to join our team. This role will involve providing expertise and support in the area of microscopy-based research of VIB labs of the Center for Structural Biology and Brussels-based labs of the Center for Inflammation Research. The successful candidate will be embedded in a team, located in Ghent and Leuven, but will be expected to provide support to research groups in an independent manner, on a daily basis, on our location in Etterbeek.

Profile

• Master or Ph.D. in Biomedical or Biological Sciences or equivalent through experience;
• Mindset for supporting and enabling science of other research labs through offering of expertise;
• Technology minded;
• Experience in confocal microscopy applications is required;
• Experience in image processing and analysis is required;
• Team player with strong social, communication and didactic skills;
• Well-organized, structured and able to autonomously plan and execute tasks;
• Meticulous and self-motivated;
• Accurate in compiling, documenting and reporting his/her work;
• Eager to learn and adapt in a fast-evolving environment;
• Good English skills, both oral and written;
• The following can be an asset:
  • Experience in working in a microscopy core facility;
  • Experience in follow-up of life science research projects.

Main responsibilities

• Support multiple research groups for basic and advanced light microscopy applications and for image analysis;
• Discuss experimental setup, acquisition preferences and analysis plan with users and with colleagues;
• Provide training for fluorescence and confocal imaging applications;
• Follow-up evolution of newly trained users;
• Provide immediate support for various microscopy setups;
• You will be based at Campus Etterbeek, with occasional visits to the VIB sites in Leuven (Gasthuisberg) and Ghent (Technologiepark-Zwijnaarde), and participation in (hybrid) project meetings with colleagues on the Ghent/Leuven locations.
