Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centres: Neurogenomics, Computational Biology, Genomics Health Data Science and Structural Biology. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

Human Technopole is looking for a Senior Research Technician for the laboratory of Giuseppe Testa, Head of the Centre for Neurogenomics.

The successful candidate will work closely with the scientists of the Testa laboratory, supporting research projects across a wide range of cutting-edge technologies in experimental neurobiology, with a strong focus on the deep molecular characterization of organoid-based models of neuropsychiatric and neurological diseases. They will operate under the supervision of senior scientists of the Testa laboratory, under the scientific oversight and management direction of the Head of the Centre for Neurogenomics.

She/he will have the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Standardization, optimizing and scaling-up of protocols for the preparation of library for next-generation sequencing applications (bulk and single cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Cut&Tag, ATAC-seq), using both commercial kits and bespoke technologies;
  • Conducting experiments in the area of stem cell neurobiology and disease modelling, combining cutting-edge methods from molecular biology, cell biology and organoid technology;
  • Standardization, optimizing and scaling up of protocols for molecular biology (DNA and RNA manipulation, RT-PCR, cloning, genome and epigenome editing, including multiplex perturbations) and biochemistry (immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation techniques, recombinant protein expression, purification and in vitro reactions);
  • Conducting advanced cell culture pipelines at scale, including primary cultures, human pluripotent stem cell lines and organoids;
  • Maintenance of the repository of standard operating procedures of the laboratory;
  • Generating reliable data for publication in the projects to which they are assigned, recording all data and results in specified forms (with Electronic Lab Notebook and Laboratory Information Management System);
  • Providing technical support and supervision to other laboratory members, including introduction to and teaching of new laboratory techniques, supporting lab members on the use of lab equipment;
  • Participating in key aspects of general lab management and organization (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment and materials).

Job requirements

Preferential requirements:

  • Master degree in life sciences and/or related disciplines;
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in a molecular neuroscience lab;
  • Knowledge of and work experience in molecular neuroscience;
  • Strong track record in the following areas: omics (bulk and single cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Cut&Tag, ATAC-seq), molecular biology (DNA and RNA manipulation, RT-PCR, cloning, genome and epigenome editing and CRISPR screenings), biochemistry (immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation techniques, recombinant protein expression, purification and in vitro reactions), histology (preferably on mammalian brain), cell culture (preferably with human pluripotent stem cell lines, brain organoids and primary neural cell cultures);
  • Previous work with in vivo models will be considered a relevant asset;
  • Experience in the general lab management and organization (e.g., managing inventories and stocks of samples, reagents, equipment and materials);
  • Ability to use electronic tools for lab work organisation (Electronic Lab Notebook, and Laboratory Information Management System, barcode reader, etc.) will be considered a relevant asset;
  • Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.
