A postdoctoral position in structural and functional studies of bacterial effectors is now available in the laboratory of Dr. Sagar Bhogaraju at EMBL Grenoble, France. We are looking for an individual interested in exploring host-pathogen interactions using a multitude of different methods. The project will involve single particle cryo-EM, proteomics and bacterial infection among other methods.
The candidate is expected to lead the research project aimed to uncover the novel structure and function of Legionella effectors. If required, the canddiate will receive training in single particle cryo-EM at the host institute but he/she must have in-depth experience in protein purification and biochemistry. Effective communication skills are required.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in Molecular Biology or related field with at least one first author research article (published or preprint). The candidate should have experience in molecular biology techniques, including cloning, protein expression and purification as well as good skills in biochemistry. Experience in single-particle cryo-EM and tissue culture would be an added advantage but not necessary.
EMBL Grenoble enables access, via the EPN Campus Partnership for Structural Biology (PSB), to state-of-the-art structural biology technologies, including the jointly run EMBL-ESRF synchrotron X-ray beamlines for MX and SAXS, as well as protein expression screening, insect and mammalian cell facilities, biophysical platform, confocal microscopy and high-throughput crystallization platforms. We have local access to excellent cryo-EM instrumentation including the in-house T12 and Glacios (equipped with Falcon 3 detector) microscopes and a Titan Krios with K3 detector at the ESRF. In addition to local instrumentation we have access to all core facilities in other parts of EMBL including the cryo-EM, mass-spectrometry/proteomics and chemical biology core facilities.
EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation with a very collegial and family friendly working environment. The remuneration package comprises a competitive salary, a comprehensive pension scheme, medical, educational and other social benefits.
