NUCLEOME THERAPEUTICS is an exciting new venture that just spun out from a decade of research at Oxford University with the aim to unlock the non-coding part of the genome to help deliver life changing treatments.

We are building a passionate, creative and dedicated multi-disciplinary team of scientists with expertise in gene regulation, genomics, machine learning, drug discovery and software development, whose mission is to decode and mine the regulatory “dark matter” of the human genome to transform drug target discovery and help deliver the next generation of genetically guided therapeutics. We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented and experienced Lab Manager to join our dynamic team, who is a self-starter, proactive and wants to work in a dynamic environment of a startup. As an early member of the team, you will have an integral role in the venture and take ownership setting up and ensuring the smooth running of our new labs in addition to supporting the scientific team.

THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Day-to-day management of the laboratory;
  • Coordination of scientific and organisational work streams and processes;
  • Supporting the scientists with the preparation of reagents, maintenance of tissue cultures and performing basic molecular biology experiments;
  • Manage laboratory purchase of inventory, storage, and supplies usage, ensuring appropriate levels of stock in particular critical reagents;
  • Manage and resolve administrative and technical problems;
  • Maintaining equipment and liaising with service engineers;
  • Ensuring all required Health and Safety policies are established and maintained;
  • Leading ethical and other regulatory approval applications;
  • Establish, execute, review and evaluate laboratory procedures and policies for operating functions of the laboratory;
  • Overseeing and maintaining laboratory records, reports and files;
  • Interact with scientific and management team to develop and implement plans for laboratory expansion;
  • Training of new staff members;
  • Use and maintenance of databases.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • A BSc or equivalent combination of training and experience in molecular biology or life sciences;
  • Procurement and lab management experience;
  • Experience in managing all aspects of molecular biology laboratory housekeeping activities;
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a laboratory environment;
  • Knowledge of the Human Tissue Act and associated approval processes;
  • Experience applying for ethical consent and other regulatory approvals;
  • Experience in molecular and cell biology protocols, such as DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, qPCR;
  • Organisation and management of freezer stock levels;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; as well as the ability to prioritise and balance competing demands;
  • Flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues with a flair for problem-solving;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong IT skills (including proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and experienced in using shared drives, electronic lab book systems and databases;
  • A positive "can-do" and result oriented attitude, with openness to new ideas and the ability to work flexibly in a highly dynamic environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Experience in large-scale sample management;
  • Pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry experience;
  • A track record in managing projects;
  • Demonstrable interest and enthusiasm in gene regulation and genomics;
  • Approachable, with excellent communication and organisational skills;
  • Initiative, and a willingness to take on responsibility.
