The Department of Materials and Environmental Technology at TalTech invites applications for a tenure track Associate Professor of Functional Materials position in the Laboratory of Thin Film Chemical Technologies. The candidate has to have significant skills and international experience in the field of functional materials technology and development of devices based on it.

The objective of the professorship is to ensure sustainable research and development in the field of functional materials technologies and to teach functional materials related subjects and their applications at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. Successful candidates are expected to involve graduate and undergraduate students in their research.

The professor's expected research and development in functional materials, technologies, and devices includes:

  • Development of emerging materials (mainly nanomaterials based on metal oxides, metal chalcogenides, thin films, hetero- and nanostructures) and engineering of their physical-chemical properties to achieve the required functionality required for different applications (environment, building integrated or product integrated photovoltaics, sensors, electronic devices);
  • Development of materials and devices using methods applied in industry, development of technologies to a level that allows their application in industry.

MAIN TASKS

  • Leading of a research group;
  • Organizing and conducting professional research and development, and successfully applying for and leading of R&D projects;
  • Development of infrastructure necessary for R&D activities;
  • Full-time balanced teaching, research and development activities;
  • Supervising of post-doctoral, PhD and master’s students;
  • Publishing the results of research projects in high-level international peer-reviewed journals;
  • Teaching at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels in Estonian as well in English;
  • Promoting collaborative research and generating funding;
  • Presenting the results of research studies at international scientific conferences and seminars.

ADDITIONAL TASKS

  • Continuous improvement of educational and research knowledge and skills;
  • Participating in the academic and non-academic committees;
  • Popularizing the field of functional materials technologies and devices and presenting research results to the wider public.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD or an equivalent degree in materials technology, at least 10 years’ research work experience in the field of functional materials technology after receiving a PhD degree;
  • Work experience in the field of functional materials outside of the country where the PhD degree was received;
  • Experience in leading a research group or laboratory and experience in managerial work;
  • Experience in research and development activities as principal investigator or senior research staff and demonstrated capacity to obtain research funding;
  • Experience in supervising master’s and PhD level students;
  • Experience in teaching at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level and/or experience in leading a study program;
  • Excellent research qualities, as shown by a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals and proceedings of renowned conferences, H-index >18 (ISI WoS). Good publication record in international peer-reviewed journals during the last 10 years: at least 40 publications;
  • Oral and invited presentations at international conferences.
