The Department has grown significantly in the past years. Due to this growth and the upcoming retirement of some of our professors we envisage to have appointed multiple new full professors by the end of 2024. We have already been able to fill five of these positions. For now, we are looking for a Full Professor in Machine Learning Fundamentals to work within the Artificial Intelligence & Data Science division. You will take over the position of the current retiring head of the Algorithmic Data Analysis group. You will further shape and lead the group within the department, the university, and society in general.
As a Full Professor you are a committed, internationally acknowledged, and leading scientist in Machine Learning. Your ambition is to lead the further development of research in Machine Learning and Algorithmic Data Analysis and the quality of education, both in teaching and curriculum development. Additionally, you strive for societal impact in the field of information and computing sciences. You seek internal and external (interdisciplinary) collaboration and acquire funding for research, developing new research collaborations and new application areas. You are an inspiring educator with enthusiasm for teaching.
Alongside taking a leading role in Machine Learning Fundamentals, you also play an important role in creating a workplace that is supportive, socially safe, and inclusive, further enhancing scientific integrity and working together towards open science. You have a clear view on how to achieve this as a leading staff member.
This position is within the Artificial Intelligence & Data Science external link division. This division encompasses several research groups including Intelligent Systems, AI Technology for Life, Data Intensive Systems, Algorithmic Data Analysis, Responsible AI, and Natural Language Processing. Utrecht University takes a leading role in offering a range of comprehensive teaching programmes. These include a multidisciplinary research Master’s in Artificial Intelligence, a research Master in Data Science, a 1-year Master in Applied Data Science and a Bachelor in Artificial Intelligence. The division collaborates closely with the public sector and companies, either directly or through our various AI Labs external link such as the National Police Lab AI external link and the AI & Mobility Lab external link. Furthermore it works closely with other disciplines through the University's focus areas Human Centered AI and Applied Data Science.
