The Company

C4X Discovery (C4XD) is looking for a Senior Genetics Data Scientist to join their Human Genomics team to develop data-driven precision medicine strategies for complex inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and IBD.

C4XD is a pioneering Drug Discovery company combining scientific expertise with cutting-edge technologies. Our commercially attractive portfolio ranges from early-stage target opportunities to late-stage Drug Discovery programmes and we have three commercially partnered programmes with one candidate in clinical development.

The Role

The role aims to enhance the capability of the existing team as our drug discovery portfolio grows and we develop the opportunities for patient stratification in immuno-inflammatory diseases.

The Human Genomics team at C4XD is a multidisciplinary group of data scientists and bioinformaticians who work with genetics and multimodal datasets to provide data-driven insight for complex diseases to advance drug discovery and precision medicine within C4XD. PatientSeek is C4XD’s precision medicine platform, which applies the unique mathematical approach of Taxonomy3® to stratify patients for novel treatments based on their genetics with multi-modal phenotypic data.

This role is a hybrid-based role.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Build and refine predictive models for precision medicine diagnostics using AI and ML approaches;
  • Analyse genetic, phenotypic and multi-omic datasets using C4XD’s precision medicine platform, PatientSeek;
  • Develop new analytical features for the PatientSeek precision medicine platform;
  • Coordinate with other researchers in C4XD and external collaborators to ensure the projects progress smoothly and efficiently;
  • Communicate results to the wider C4XD organisation;
  • Ensure record keeping and archiving of data is up to date and accurate;
  • Ensure C4XD and external data privacy policies are adhered to;
  • Support business development activities when required;
  • Support reputational building with publications and poster and oral presentations at conferences;
  • Support appropriate protection of genetic and biological intellectual property.

Education, Experience & Skills Required

Essential:

  • Ph.D. (or M.Sc. + relevant experience) in data science, biostatistics, bioinformatics or equivalent experience;
  • Experience working with large biological datasets (omics, EHR, RWE, clinical phenotypes);
  • Experience working with Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence methods;
  • Knowledge and understanding of data privacy issues and requirements;
  • Experience with IT tools (e.g., cloud computing, AWS, Linux, HPC), programming languages (e.g., R, Python, SQL, bash), and version control management (e.g., git);
  • Highly self-motivated, flexible and organised;
  • The ability to work independently but know when additional input is required;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Creative thinking and enthusiasm for innovation.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Bayesian statistical methods;
  • Experience modelling diverse datasets (ideally biological/clinical);
  • Experience working with longitudinal biological or clinical data;
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team in a biotech or pharma setting;
  • Knowledge of immuno-inflammatory diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, IBD).
