The assignment consists of lecturing duties, scientific research and academic service to society. During a period, limited to 10 years, scientific research will be the main activity.
You will expand the scientific research in the area of cardiogenomics, including aortic aneurysmal disease, inherited cardiac arrhythmia and cardiomyopathy;
You will acquire and manage external funding at national and international level;
You will supervise doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows;
You will offer scientific services: among others you take part in science communication and representation on boards of professional organisations in the field of cardiogenetics;
You will be assigned limited lecturing duties in the field of medical genetics.
Profile and requirements
You hold an MD and a doctorate degree (PhD) in Medical science;
You have a minimum of 15 year experience on Postdoctoral level on the date of appointment;
You have an international academic CV and perform qualitatively outstanding academic research;
Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy;
The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university;
You have leadership skills;
You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative;
If you do not master Dutch, the administrative language of the university, you should be willing to obtain a CEFR B2 level of proficiency in Dutch within five years after your appointment. As soon as you take on teaching duties as a course unit coordinator, you should be able to demonstrate a CEFR C1 level of proficiency in the language of instruction. The University of Antwerp supports international staff members on an integration trajectory and offers tailor-made language coaching in compliance with Flanders’ statutory language regulations;
Extension to recommendation:
Experience in leading research and/or supervising doctorates, with demonstrable promotorship of current or completed doctorates;
Experience with the writing and acquisition of (funded) subsidy applications; including PhD, postdoc fellowships; ERC grantso International visibility, for e.g. by oral (invited) presentations at international congresses;o International mobility, through demonstrable research stays in research institutes external to the institution with the highest academic degree;
Involvement in scientific services within and/or outside the academic institute of appointment;
Expertise in the field of cardiogenomics. Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis (genome/exome sequencing), as well as with mouse, zebrafish and/or iPSC work.
