The Department of Food and Nutrition invites applications for a position of POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN CARBOHYDRATE CHEMISTRY for a 18 months fixed-term period starting from 1st February 2020 (date can be negotiated) in the area of carbohydrate functionalization and assembling into novel biopolymers.
We are working in collaboration with a research team from Aalto University in developing novel biocatalysts that sustainably generate bifunctional building blocks from oligosaccharides, such as hemicellulose fractions, permitting their assembly into novel biopolymers. The specific focus is on carbohydrate oxidoreductases and transaminases.
The successful candidate will become part of a collaborative project team. The main duties will include research, dissemination of results including talks and article writing, student supervision and teaching (about 10 % of the annual working time), and participation in suitable external funding applications.
We are looking for a highly motivated, curiosity driven and skilled postdoctoral researcher with a degree and knowledge in organic, polymer, food, wood or analytical chemistry, or other related fields, supported by fluency in English and excellent writing skills. You will contribute particularly to research on enzymatic functionalization, analytics, and polymerization of enzymatically activated mono- and oligosaccharides.
A successful candidate is expected to be interested on academic research, and to be initiative and capable of research planning and working independently as well as in team environments. The candidate should have a proven capability to publish in scientific journals, have excellent analytical and methodological skills, and possess teaching skills. We appreciate applicants with a proven track record in multidisciplinary collaboration and genuine interest for applied research and development.
