The main purpose of this consultancy is to provide technical assistance and support to the Radioactive Waste and Spent Fuel Management Unit.
Functions/Key Results Expected
Provide technical expertise for the IAEA/EC cooperation project on the responsible and safe management of radioactive waste and spent fuel;
Provide technical advice for the follow on international working group on the decision making for geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste;
Provide technical advice to follow on working group on the decision process from monitoring programmes for geological disposal;
Implement assistance missions to Member States in the field of radioactive waste management under TC or Asian Nuclear Safety Network projects; and
Develop safety standards for the predisposal and disposal of radioactive waste and spent fuel.
Qualifications and Experience
Advanced university degree in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical or related Science.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the fields of radioactive waste and spent fuel management and radiation safety, of which 5 years should have been concerned with regulatory or safety aspects of the management of radioactive waste and spent fuel.
Experience in international projects desirable, particularly with developing countries, and in implementing a strategic approach to achieving improvements.
Experience in preparing and delivering training on relevant technical issues.
