We are looking for an experienced Earth Observation Application and Services Expert to lead our DestinE team at our client EUMETSAT in Darmstadt. Candidates should have a Master's or PhD in Earth Observation, engineering, computer science, geospatial science or a related discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Destination Earth (DestinE) is a European Commission initiative developing a highly accurate digital representation of the Earth system. EUMETSAT is responsible for the DestinE Data Lake, providing access to Earth Observation data and services supporting the wider DestinE ecosystem.

You will coordinate the delivery of the DestinE Data Lake User Engagement Service and its team. The role focuses on helping users understand and exploit these capabilities. You will work across Earth Observation, scientific applications, data services and user engagement, working with researchers, service developers and technical teams to identify needs, develop practical applications and workflows, and improve user-facing services.

Key responsibilities:

• Identify user needs, emerging applications and barriers to adoption, and translate these into practical recommendations;
• Develop and demonstrate Earth Observation applications, workflows and use cases using DestinE data and services;
• Design and deliver technical training, workshops, webinars and demonstrations;
• Develop clear user documentation, tutorials and other learning resources;
• Engage with users and technical teams to gather requirements and support service improvements;
• Analyse and communicate user feedback to inform the evolution of the DestinE Data Lake and associated services;
• Build relationships across EUMETSAT and the wider DestinE community;
• Coordinate delivery of the User Engagement Service, including planning, prioritisation and reporting;
• Contribute to conferences, workshops, User Exchanges and other community activities.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Master's or PhD in Earth Observation, engineering, computer science, geospatial science or a related discipline;
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience;
• Strong understanding of Earth Observation data, applications and services;
• Experience with cloud-based data services, scientific computing and/or large-scale geospatial data;
• Experience translating user needs into applications, workflows, training or service improvements;
• Experience delivering technical training or user engagement activities;
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to different audiences;
• Ability to work effectively across scientific, technical and operational communities;
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills;
• Experience working in international or multi-organisation programmes is desirable.
