The researcher models aerosol dispersion using the HYSPLIT model;
The researcher analyses satellite-based cloud retrievals for ship-track-like natural experiments of aerosol-cloud interactions using python and collaborates with international partners;
In addition, the researcher uses various methods to predict unobserved counterfactual cloud properties for cloud areas polluted by anthropogenic aerosols. The researcher analyzes the results in international collaboration;
The researcher will work for a larger 5-year ERC-funded research project CloudTracker (Tracking Polluted Clouds: the Plausibility of a Strong Aerosol Cooling Effect on Earth’s Climate);
International-level research in the volume equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses in five years;
Popularising their specialisation;
Teaching and student supervision are encouraged.
Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.
Required experience
It is expected that candidates have experience with one or more of the following: satellite remote sensing; aerosol-cloud interactions. In addition, a strong data-analysis/programming background is expected;
International-level research in the specialisation, the volume of which so far is equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis;
Experience with the Python programming language.
Required language skills
Good oral and written communication skills in English.
