There are currently significant analytical challenges in analysing both amines and their potentially harmful degradation products, including nitrosamines and nitramines. You will lead the development of novel analytical methods to identify and quantify nitrogen containing organic aerosol compounds, including amines and their degradation products from amine-based post combustion carbon capture. This will involve developing high resolution organic aerosol compositional analysis methods including two-dimensional gas chromatography and UHPLC-mass spectrometry, and applying these to study aerosol generated in an oxidation flow reactor. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, including students, researchers, technicians and regulators. You will also supervise postgraduate research students and mentor colleagues with less experience, advising on their personal development and supporting them in developing their research techniques.
