The successful candidate is expected to carry out independent research and teaching in the domain of Theoretical Solid-State Physics.

The professorship is embedded in the research and teaching activities of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and the Center for Quantum Science. The goal of this appointment is to strengthen research of the Department of Physics that focusses on correlated quantum phenomena in the solid state.

We are looking for a researcher who will build a dynamic and diverse research group in the area of theoretical solid-state physics and is open to interdisciplinary collaborations with the existing research groups. We are seeking a candidate with an outstanding research profile and high international visibility. They are expected to attract substantial competitive third-party research funding. An active involvement in the Center for Quantum Science and the Center for Light-Matter-Interaction, Sensors and Analytics LISA+ is expected as well as readiness to participate in current or planned joint research projects and in the strategic development of the Department of Physics and the Faculty of Science.

The candidate is expected to participate in teaching in the Bachelor and Master of Physics study programs covering the full range of theoretical physics. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter. Teaching includes fundamental lectures and basic modules as well as more specialized lectures. The professorship participates in exams and PhD defenses of the Department of Physics at the usual level. Contributions to academic self-government at the University level and to committees of the Department of Physics are expected.

Required qualifications include an outstanding doctorate in a pertinent field, international publications, evidence of third-party grants (fellowship/scholarship) as well as teaching experience. The appointment prerequisites of § 51 LHG apply.
