Duties and responsibilities

  • Participation in the research, development and creative activities under the supervision of a professor or associate professor within the project PRG1899.
  • Supervision of a PhD student working on the project PRG1899.
  • International-level research in the volume equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses in five years.
  • Development of skills necessary for research, development and creative activities, and professional development.
  • Study design in collaboration with the PI of the project.
  • Use and development of methods for metagenomic bioinformatic analysis of birch tar samples.
  • Preparation of results for scientific publications within the PRG1899 project.
  • Teaching, using modern teaching methods and educational technology, supervising students of the first and second level of higher education within the project PRG1899.
  • Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills.
  • Participation in the work of the university’s decision-making bodies is recommended.
  • Popularising their specialisation.

Required qualifications

  • PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience

  • Ability to participate in the research, development and creative activities of the specialisation.
  • International-level research in the specialisation in the field of ancient metagenomics, the volume of which so far is equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis.
  • Previous teaching experience at least at the first two levels of higher education, including effective supervision of bachelor’s and master’s students.

Required language skills

Proficient in English (spoken and written). According to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.
