Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Atomic and Molecular Quantum Technologies

University of Bristol

Bristol, United Kingdom

GBP 39,906 - 50,253 per year

The role

Are you a talented individual with experience in Quantum Optics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Solid State Quantum Systems, or Quantum Memories? Join our team working on single molecule quantum technologies, atomic quantum memories, and nanophotonic devices.

As a member of our team, you will work on developing new quantum technologies based on single molecules and clouds of atoms. We are the leading UK group working on molecular quantum photonics, where we couple molecules to nanostructures to develop photon sources, investigate how molecules respond to various fields and forces and how they interact with their environment, and harness electron and nuclear spins in molecules. We are interfacing molecule emission with warm and cold atom quantum memories, with a goal of entangling memories across a network.

What will you be doing?

  • You will work on molecular photon sources and atomic quantum memories.
  • You will have to opportunity to work on cold and warm atom systems, cryogenically cooled molecules, and integrated photonic systems.
  • You will have day-to-day responsibility for the design and execution of experiments in collaboration with other members of QET Labs, as well as with the Integrated Quantum Networks Hub.
  • You will contribute towards preparation and submission of manuscripts, reports and presentations.

You should apply if

  • Are interested in working at the cutting edge of quantum optics, photonics and quantum memory technologies.
  • Have experience in some of the following areas: atomic/molecular physics, quantum memories, solid state quantum emitters, laser spectroscopy, quantum control, photonics, bulk optics, fibre optics, entanglement sources, or other quantum technologies.
  • Have a PhD (or working towards one) in Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or another relevant discipline (or equivalent research experience).
