  • To characterise the crystals grown using x-ray diffraction (powder and single crystal) and carry out compositional analysis;
  • To investigate the superconducting/magnetic properties of the crystals grown using magnetometry, transport and thermodynamic measurements;
  • To investigate or assist in the investigation of the properties of the crystals using neutron/x-ray scattering and muon techniques;
  • To be able to work in a team and to collaborate with groups of scientists at an international level;
  • Applicants should be trained in experimental solid-state synthesis and crystal growth techniques and preferably have experience of powder and single crystal x-ray diffraction and low temperature experimental methods;
  • Write up research work for publication;
  • Will contribute to preparing proposals for experiments at central facilities requesting beamtime.

Teaching and Learning Support:

  • Could be expected to contribute to the teaching and learning programmes in the Department;
  • Assist in the supervision of student projects and the development of student research skills;
