Your role
As part of the OPERA project, you will act as a key interface between scientific teams, software developers, and international partners.
You will coordinate the development of ocean forecasting applications, from requirements definition through to delivery.
Your responsibilities
Coordinate the technical activities of the OPERA project in collaboration with the Project Manager;
Lead application development efforts (primarily in Python, cloud architectures, APIs);
Write technical specifications and oversee external contractors;
Act as the interface between internal teams, European partners, and subcontractors;
Contribute to the structuring and dissemination of developed solutions;
Organize and deliver technical training and capacity-building activities;
Support the promotion and sharing of scientific and technical results.
You may also contribute to other innovative projects carried out by Mercator Ocean.
Profile
Required
Master’s degree (or equivalent) in engineering, computer science, data science, applied mathematics, or physical oceanography;
At least 5 years of experience in developing regional or coastal analysis and forecasting systems, or in a related field (modeling, data assimilation, machine learning applied to Earth sciences);
Strong skills in scientific programming (Python), software engineering best practices (Git, CI/CD, testing), and cloud technologies (Docker, APIs, S3);
Experience in coordinating technical software development projects;
Knowledge of oceanographic data and processing methods;
Professional proficiency in both English and French (written and spoken).
Nice to have
Experience in European or international projects;
Experience working in a multicultural environment or in Africa;
Spanish language skills.
