The Project & Key Tasks

We are seeking an ambitious Postdoc to lead a high-impact project on the structural dynamics of cyanobacterial halorhodopsins. This project has a "running start": diffracting crystals (2.3 Å) and purification protocols are already established.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Leading data collection at premier facilities, including European XFEL, SwissFEL, and MAX IV;
  • Solving and interpreting time-resolved structures (SFX/SSX) from femtoseconds to milliseconds;
  • Driving the biochemical characterisation of chloride transport mechanisms;
  • Collaborating with international partners for spectroscopic and computational validation;
  • Preparing high-impact manuscripts (previous lab work published in Science).

Required Qualifications & Experience

Please read these requirements carefully.

We will only consider candidates who meet these firm criteria:

  • PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field;
  • Proven track record in protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization;
  • Strong interest in X-ray crystallography; while SFX/XFEL experience is an asset, it is not a prerequisite (full training provided);
  • Fluency in English (lab language is English; no Polish required).

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with membrane proteins;
  • Familiarity with serial crystallography (SFX/SSX);
  • Programming skills (Python, Bash) for structural data processing.
