Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Neuroimmunology

Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Neuroimmunology

University of Basel

Basel, Switzerland

In our research laboratory, led by Prof. Anne-Katrin Pröbstel, we investigate the mechanisms of neuroimmunological diseases, with a particular focus on multiple sclerosis and MOG-antibody associated disease (MOGAD). We study how immune cells including B cells and gut microbiome contribute to the initiation and maintenance of neuroinflammatory processes and identify molecular targets that could serve as the basis for future therapies. To that end, we combine human studies with experimental (gnotobiotic) murine models. Our interdisciplinary team combines cutting-edge techniques in immunology, microbiome research, molecular biology, and therapeutic development. Together with clinical and scientific partners, we strive to accelerate the translation of laboratory findings into medically relevant applications, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for patients with neuroimmunological diseases.

For a project to investigate the functional effect of patient-derived autoantibodies in MOGAD and subsequent development of precision therapies, we are looking for an experienced postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in murine models. Experience with stereotactic injections and antibody-mediated disease models is a plus. If you enjoy precise laboratory work, have a curiosity for innovative research, and thrive in a collaborative and dedicated team, we look forward to receiving your application.

Your position

  • Leading research projects in the field of experimental neuroimmunology, with a particular focus on mechanisms of B cell-mediated autoimmunity in the central nervous system using murine models of neuroinflammation;
  • Independent planning, coordination, and prioritization of experimental work;
  • Management of transgenic and germ-free mouse colony;
  • Documentation of animal experiments in accordance with regulatory approvals;
  • Conducting genotyping (PCR, RT-PCR), organ isolations, injections (e.g. intravital injections of antibodies), and other animal experiments;
  • Application and optimization of modern laboratory techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, cell culture, molecular biological analyses);
  • Analysis and processing of experimental data, as well as contribution to the interpretation and presentation of results;
  • Responsibility for the timely implementation of projects and adherence to quality standards.

Your profile

  • PhD in a natural science or related field;
  • Documented practical experience with animal work including valid certification;
  • Practical experience in cell culture and immunological methods (especially T- and B-cell analyses);
  • Strong sense of responsibility and high reliability in executing complex experiments;
  • Independent and structured working style with the ability to solve problems proactively;
  • Team-oriented personality with strong motivation for experimental research and interdisciplinary collaboration;
  • Excellent communication skills.
