Researcher in Immunology

Researcher in Immunology

Uppsala University

Uppsala, Sweden

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher lead and coordinate projects focused on in vivo experimental studies of autoimmune diseases, with a focus on rheumatoid arthritis. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts, gain access to advanced resources, and contribute to groundbreaking discoveries that could shape the future treatment of autoimmune diseases. The position is for 2 years with the possibility of extension for an additional year.

Project Description and Responsibilities

We are interested in uncovering the etiology and regulatory mechanisms underlying the development of autoimmune diseases. Using in vivo models, our goal is to analyze the pathogenic and regulatory mechanisms driving rheumatoid arthritis. In this project, we will investigate the pathological role of human gene variants associated with the evelopment of autoimmune disease. You will have access to unique strains in which parts of the mouse genome have been replaced with corresponding human genes. These mice can develop an immune response similar to that in humans and also have increased susceptibility to human diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Using these models, we are working to develop tolerogenic, immunospecific vaccines.

As a researcher, you are expected to take a leading role in the entire research process—from research planning and project administration to data processing, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of research results. You will work on immunology-focused research, including in vivo experiments, immune assays, and expression analysis. You are also expected to participate in the supervision of master’s students and teaching.

Qualification Requirements

  • Ph.D. in immunology or a related field
  • Applicants must have advanced expertise in animal experimentation (including surgical procedures), flow cytometry, histology, and confocal microscopy.
  • Research experience of in vivo handling, breeding, and genotyping; surgical procedures; and laboratory work in cell biology related to arthritis
  • Several years of experience in protein biochemistry, particularly recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization, as well as biostatistical analysis
  • Previous experience with the Äkta system, Luminex system, flow cytometry, and antibody-based immunoassays
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written

We place great emphasis on personal fit and are seeking highly creative and motivated colleagues who enjoy working in a team. We expect applicants to demonstrate good teamwork skills while also being highly independent.
