Research Associate/Postdoc - Center for Regenerative Therapies

Universitätsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus Dresden

Dresden, Germany

The Calegari Group at the CRTD, an institute of TU Dresden within the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering, investigates the role of adult neurogenesis in cognitive function. Using in-vivo models developed in the lab for the expansion of neural stem cells, the group explores the underlying mechanisms in the olfactory system and hippocampus. The advertised position is embedded in the DFG-funded projects “SCENT Reg” and “BrainLego” and is designed to provide scientific qualification through independent research at the interface of neurobiology and stem cell biology.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Investigate the cellular and neuronal basis of cognitive functions using innovative experimental approaches;
  • Plan, conduct, and analyze complex brain experiments in genetically modified mouse models, including optogenetic and chemogenetic methods;
  • Link molecular cell biology of adult neural stem cells with neurophysiological questions;
  • Perform advanced experimental manipulations such as pharmacological treatments, surgeries, and organ dissections;
  • Phenotypically characterize experimental models at the histological level using modern microscopy and analytical techniques;
  • Contribute actively to academic teaching, including delivering courses, supervising seminar and thesis projects, and preparing teaching materials;
  • Supervise and mentor students and junior researchers, and organize laboratory operations (e.g., mouse colonies, procurement of materials).

Your Profile:

  • University degree in neurophysiology or a comparable field;
  • Solid expertise in electrophysiology, biochemistry, analytics, and experimental laboratory work;
  • Practical experience in conducting and analyzing experimental research;
  • Experience handling laboratory animals, ideally with the required certification according to applicable regulations;
  • Independent, structured, and responsible working style;
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary neurobiological research and scientific qualification.
