Postdoctoral Researcher in Ocean-biogeochemical Modelling
GEOMAR - Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research
Kiel, Germany
Job Description
This position focuses on investigating the biogeochemical impacts of different zooplankton diel vertical migration (DVM) behaviors in the Peruvian Upwelling System, such as their effects on surface productivity, export fluxes, oxygen distributions, and nitrogen loss processes.
The main task will be to implement and evaluate different zooplankton DVM parameterizations within an existing regional ocean circulation–biogeochemical model. The long-term objective is to assess their impacts on local biogeochemical dynamics under present-day conditions and future IPCC climate scenarios throughout the 21st century.
Qualification
Requirements
- Applicants must hold a PhD degree in ocean or climate sciences, or a related field;
- Experience working with ocean-biogeochemical models or Earth system models, or similar;
- A background in analyzing large datasets and visualizing data using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent;
- Excellent written English skills and demonstrated very good presentation and communication skills in English;
- Publication using ocean-biogeochemical models or Earth system models will be considered a strong asset. Manuscripts published or in progress in English.
Beneficial
- A background in marine oxygen, nitrogen-cycle or plankton dynamics;
- Experience with high-performance computing facilities and knowledge of Fortran;
- Experience with a regional ocean circulation model (e.g., ROMS).
