EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency, operating a fleet of satellites delivering Sentinel-3, Jason and other marine data and related support services to the Copernicus and EUMETSAT user communities.

Reporting to the User Engagement Manager the Lead Marine Applications Expert will frame the marine user engagement activities, provide expert support to the marine applications user community, organise, manage and follow up the interactions with the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS). He/she will also support the planning and delivery of marine application training activities and outreach and promotion activities related to marine applications.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and reporting of the marine applications user engagement targeting the member states, European Services, global services and related research;
  • Develop the internal and external networks to support the development of the application area;
  • Develop and maintain user engagement plans for marine applications inclusive of required resources and contribute to the cross-thematic engagement management team;
  • Provide consolidated user feedback using the user feedback management process and coordinating with other applications leads for cross-application issues;
  • Define, implement and evaluate online and presence training on the use of marine application products and related data access system and services, with focus on science-based operational applications;
  • Identify, develop and maintain required training resources, including building a network of cooperation with specialised institutions and experts and contributing to the EUMETSAT library of case studies for training;
  • Coordinate with the Copernicus Marine Monitoring Service (CMEMS) and other relevant Copernicus partners, on user engagement requirements and activities, and support coordinated operations and planning:
    • Provide expert support to experienced and new users of the marine data stream;
    • Provide first-line support to enquiries on marine products channelled by the User Helpdesk, and contribute to the management of user feedback across EUMETSAT.
  • Provide expert input to the generation and evolution of information on the marine products including, but not exclusively, product guides, case studies, web-based information and community web;
  • Support other application areas as required, e.g. hydrology and water resource management.

Requirements

Qualifications

University degree in oceanography, physics, meteorology or a related discipline.

Skills and Experience

  • In-depth experience in developing, testing and/or operating real-time space or ground segment systems;
  • Experience of real-time ground segment systems monitoring;
  • Thorough understanding of geographically-distributed systems operations, including networking, distributed applications, and interactions with external operations entities;
  • Experience in provision of real-time data services and end-to-end services;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to apply these to interactions within a team and between teams;
  • Proven experience in international cooperation with external entities;
  • Technical/Project Management and coordination would be an advantage.

Languages

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Ability to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. Knowledge of other Member State language is an asset.
