COE AI Scientist

Melexis Microelectronic Integrated Systems

Tessenderlo-Ham, Belgium

Your future job

As a Data Scientist within our Center of Excellence (CoE), you will occupy a unique "bridge" role. You will spend roughly half your time hands-on, building AI solutions and the other half supporting and upskilling colleagues across the company.

Working closely with business teams, you’ll support the full AI lifecycle, from data exploration and model development to deployment and continuous improvement, ensuring your solutions deliver measurable value and help advance the organization.

At Melexis, your work will empower smarter, faster decisions and contribute to the company’s innovation and long-term success.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Design and apply machine learning models to tackle real-world challenges in semiconductor testing, production, and related areas, with a focus on practical and measurable impact;
  • Evaluate the business value and feasibility of advanced analytics opportunities, balancing innovation with operational needs;
  • Explore and analyze data to generate insights that directly support engineering and business decisions;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams; including product, test, and application engineers to identify and prioritize opportunities for AI and machine learning solutions;
  • Use modern data analysis tools and techniques (e.g., Spark, Python) to process, structure, and analyze large and complex datasets;
  • Support the creation of learning materials and help colleagues strengthen their understanding of AI and machine learning concepts;
  • Assist in deploying and monitoring ML models in production, ensuring reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement;
  • Act as a "first responder" for other departments starting their AI journey. You’ll provide technical guidance, help them debug their workflows, and share best practices for clean, scalable code;
  • Help the CoE develop and maintain internal "AI Blueprints"—standardized templates and tutorials that make it easier for non-DS specialists to build reliable models;
  • Help bridge the gap between "the data" and "the business." You will practice Change Management by helping stakeholders understand the why behind AI decisions and supporting teams through the transition from manual to automated processes.

Your profile

  • Ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and deliver practical, value-driven solutions;
  • Comfortable operating in a large, international organization with many stakeholders, processes;
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science) or equivalent hands-on experience in data science or machine learning;
  • Proven experience building and applying machine learning models in an applied, real-world context, ideally in manufacturing, testing, or industrial environments;
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn;
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform or AWS) and big-data tools (e.g., Spark);
  • Solid problem-solving ability, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills, with the ability to make complex topics easy to understand for non-technical stakeholders.
