Job Description
As a Chromatography Analyst, you will perform various analytical tests on dairy, food, and infant formula samples using a variety of test methods and techniques in a busy INAB accredited food and dairy chemistry contract laboratory.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking day to day effective, accurate and efficient processing of workload in the food chemistry laboratory and to perform tasks assigned by the Senior Laboratory staff;
- Adhering to regulations and laboratory policies regarding health and safety and to maintain a clean and hygienic working environment;
- Carrying out laboratory tests for validation of the new methods in the Food Chemistry Laboratory and to perform tasks assigned by their manager;
- Train junior staff members on analytical methods;
- Handling and testing samples for various dairy and nutritional tests according to documented procedures, including attention to sample preparation, temperature control, storage and prevention of cross-contamination;
- Maintaining accurate and systematic records of testing;
- Have an active role is developing the capability and range of testing provided by the Laboratory to support profitable growth;
- Reporting any faults to the Laboratory Manager or Team leader;
- Participate in the training programme, undergoing further training as required;
- Always uphold and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry or other relevant subject;
- Practical analytical chemistry and instrumentation experience, ideally in a high volume contract laboratory;
- Technical, troubleshooting, report writing and statistical skills would be an advantage;
- Thorough understanding of relevant quality system and accreditation requirements;
- Computer literate;
- Good standard of written and spoken English and numeracy skills;
- Hard working self-motivated and ability to work on your own initiative;
- Ability to work well under pressure;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organise and co-ordinate your own workload;
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
