The professorship in Machine Learning seeks to establish a research group focusing on methods and theoretical principles of machine learning. Successful candidates are internationally recognized in at least one current research area of machine learning and ideally engage in interdisciplinary research with applications in economics, political science, psychology, or sociology.
The holder of the position takes a leading role in the interdisciplinary Master's programme in Social and Economic Data Science (SEDS). Candidates should also connect to the main research areas of our department. Contributions to and integration with the department’s interdisciplinary initiatives, such as the new collaborative research centre (SFB 1760) “Silence, Noise and Signal in Language”, are highly desirable.
Recruitment requirements are: a university degree in computer science or a related field, a doctoral degree as well as a habilitation or an equivalent scientific achievement. Applicants should have a strong research record substantiated through publications at international high-ranking venues, experience in obtaining external funding, and project leadership. Equally important, the applicant must have experience in providing quality teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels in the programmes offered by the department. The candidate is expected to teach courses in German within three years of appointment.
