Senior Scientist - mRNA Process Development (Downstream)

Based in Geleen, you will take a leading role in mRNA downstream process development, owning complex purification challenges from experimental design through data interpretation. You will work with a high level of independence, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop robust, scalable and manufacturable mRNA processes for our clients.
What you will do
- Provide scientific and technical leadership for downstream mRNA process development activities;
- Independently design, execute and interpret complex purification experiments;
- Lead problem-solving activities and translate data into clear process improvements;
- Develop and optimize purification strategies using chromatography and filtration technologies;
- Write and review high-quality scientific reports and technical documentation;
- Support technology transfer activities and ensure processes are scalable and manufacturable;
- Collaborate with internal teams and engage with customers on downstream-related topics.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in biotechnology, bioengineering, chemical engineering or a related field;
- Strong hands-on experience in downstream process development for mRNA or large biomolecules;
- Advanced expertise in purification techniques such as chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, HIC, SEC) and filtration technologies, including TFF;
- Ability to independently design, execute and analyze complex experiments, including DOE-based studies;
- Proven capability to translate scientific data into actionable conclusions and process improvements;
- Experience working autonomously while contributing effectively within cross-functional project teams;
- Strong scientific communication skills, including clear reporting and presentation of results.
