WORK TASKS
As a Laboratory Engineer (Senior) in Advanced Imaging, you will support cell and tissue imaging needs across research areas including cancer, neurobiology, and immunology. You will work with advanced light microscopy, biological image processing methods, and imaging data analysis. You will also play a key role in the continuous development of AIC-Turku services and operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Training, advising, and supporting users in experimental design, imaging, and analysis workflows;
- Providing hands-on technical support for advanced light microscopy systems;
- Performing quality control, benchmarking, and maintenance routines to ensure reliable performance;
- Testing and implementing new microscopy systems and workflows across modalities such as widefield, confocal, light-sheet, and super-resolution imaging;
- Supporting academic and industrial projects locally, and serving international Euro-BioImaging customers;
- Contributing to instrument development and acquisition planning;
- Participating in microscopy conferences and engaging with national and international imaging networks;
- Developing and improving facility services, documentation, and user support processes;
- collaborating within national imaging networks, developing services.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
We are primarily looking for a Laboratory Engineer (Senior) with more than five year’s experience of working in a microscopy facility or in a company as a microscopy application specialist, having also gained some experience in leading processes (leadership). An applicant who does not fulfil these expectations can be employed as laboratory engineer.
Essential qualifications
- A master's or doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, bioengineering, or a related field;
- A demonstrated track record in imaging-related research projects;
- Strong experience with light microscopy techniques and imaging data analysis;
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a multidisciplinary, international environment;
- Excellent English skills (spoken and written).
Desirable qualifications
- Experience with live-cell imaging and/or super-resolution imaging;
- Experience working in research infrastructures/core facilities (e.g., service development, service design, operations);
- Strong teaching and training skills.
