Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab to contract experienced physics professionals for a high-impact project. Contractors will design and evaluate technical tasks that test AI systems’ understanding of core physics concepts, quantitative reasoning, and scientific problem-solving. This work is ideal for individuals with a strong academic background in physics and the ability to critically assess model outputs across a range of topics.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop realistic, domain-appropriate physics tasks spanning classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum physics, and more;
• Review AI-generated answers for conceptual soundness, accuracy, and mathematical validity;
• Author high-quality reference solutions that demonstrate rigorous problem-solving and clear exposition;
• Flag incorrect logic, flawed assumptions, or computational errors in model outputs;
• Collaborate asynchronously with researchers and peer experts through shared documentation and structured written feedback.

Ideal Qualifications

• Advanced degree (PhD or MSc) in physics or a closely related field;
• 3+ years of experience in physics research, teaching, or applied problem-solving;
• Strong command of theoretical frameworks, modeling, and quantitative methods;
• Excellent written communication and analytical reasoning skills;
• Experience assessing scientific accuracy and pedagogical clarity in technical content.

• Expected commitment: 10+ hours/week;

Contract and Payment Terms

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor;
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule;
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance;
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution;
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered;
