Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Nuclear Physics

Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Nuclear Physics

University of Jyväskylä

Jyväskylä, Finland

The researcher will join the Exotic Nuclei and Beams (IGISOL) team at the University of Jyväskylä. The group investigates properties of atomic nuclei by employing high-precision mass spectrometry as well as laser and decay spectroscopy at the IGISOL facility in the JYFL Accelerator Laboratory. The conducted research at IGISOL focuses on nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure, neutrino physics, and fundamental interactions. The nuclear astrophysics part of the research is related to the newly established Centre of Excellence in Neutron-Star Physics, funded by the Research Council of Finland. We also have strong connections to other international accelerator facilities, such as GSI-FAIR and CERN.

Who we are looking for

The successful candidate will significantly contribute to the development of the new, larger stopping cell with electric-field guidance for fission fragments at IGISOL. Moreover, the postdoctoral researcher will also contribute to other experiments involving different types of stopping cells, such as multinucleon-transfer reaction experiments.

Qualifications

  • You have, or are just about to have, a Ph.D. degree in nuclear physics or related field;
  • Strong background in nuclear physics experiments;
  • Proficiency in computational methods and programming (e.g., C++, Python,..);
  • Interested in research and eagerly pursuing an academic career;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience from gas catchers and production methods at accelerator facilities;
  • Experience from simulations, such as SIMION, GEANT4 or COMSOL.
