MR Scientist: 14T Human Brain Spectroscopy

MR Scientist: 14T Human Brain Spectroscopy

Radboud University - Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging

Nijmegen, Netherlands

We are looking for a specialist in MR spectroscopy with a strong methodological background and interest in cognitive neuroimaging to work on the world's first whole-body 14 Tesla MRI system. As part of the DYNAMIC team, you will play a leading role in the development and implementation of spectroscopy of the brain for patients and healthy volunteers.

You will play a leading role in the development and implementation of spectroscopy techniques in the brain. The exquisite sensitivity of a 14 T MRI system will allow spectroscopic measurements with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution. The access to spatial distributions of neurotransmitter signals will open a new window on human brain function. We are searching for a spectroscopist with a strong methodological background and an interest in applying spectroscopic techniques to cutting-edge neuroscience. Areas of research can include the development of metabolic imaging techniques and measuring dynamic changes in metabolite concentrations.

You will be encouraged to acquire independent funding and to work in close collaboration with other teams participating in the DYNAMIC initiative. At the Donders Institute, you will play an active role encouraging, facilitating and enabling the use of the 14T system for the benefit of neuroscientists and clinicians.

In addition to having access to the 14T scanner, you will also have access to the imaging facilities of the Donders Institute (3T systems in Nijmegen and the 7T system at the Erwin L Hahn Institute in Essen, Germany), which will be particularly relevant during the development phase of the 14T system.

Does this sound like you?

  • You hold a PhD, preferably with a specialisation in MR spectroscopy, and have a background in the physical sciences;
  • You have relevant previous experience, preferably with 7 Tesla or higher;
  • You have a strong publication record;
  • You have good communication and presentation skills.

It is not necessary to tick all these boxes to be considered for the position as we consider overall quality and motivation to be of primary importance. Mentoring and coaching will be offered as appropriate.
