Postdoctoral Position to Study Genomic Resilience Against Neurodegeneration
VIB
Leuven, Belgium
We expect the candidate to computationally address biological questions concerning resilience against neurodegeneration both within as well as across -omics modalities, leveraging both in house as well as public databases. Expertise in the data analysis of one of the modalities that we will use in this project (single cell transcriptomics, proteomics or long-read DNA or RNA sequencing) will therefore be desirable. Tight collaboration with the bioinformatics team in Amsterdam will be critical, thus good communication and organization skills are warranted. Given the size of the project, we also expect close collaboration with the wet lab team to optimize workflows and procedures and to aid in data quality control, storage and maintenance.
Profile
We are seeking a highly motivated, efficient, energetic and optimistic postdoctoral fellow, with a strong interest in aging and neurodegeneration and a firm background in bioinformatics, to join our team in Leuven.
A successful candidate:
- Has a master’s degree in Bioinformatics and affinity with Computer Science, Bio-engineering and Life Sciences;
- Has a PhD and experience with at least one of the following techniques: proteomics (lipidomics, shot gun proteomics, phosphoproteomics), single cell RNAseq, long read DNA/RMA sequencing;
- Is proficient in pipeline design, not only the application of existing pipelines;
- Has experience with at least one of the following techniques: proteomics (lipidomics, shot gun proteomics, phosphoproteomics), single cell RNAseq, long read DNA/RMA sequencing;
- Has experience with programming, data visualization and data handling in Python, R or related languages;
- Is proficient in Unix/Linux-based command line and cluster environments;
- Has strong verbal and written English communication skills;
- Is pro-active, efficient, well organized, independent and a team-player.
