Postdoctoral Researcher in Colloidal Biomaterial Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering

Postdoctoral Researcher in Colloidal Biomaterial Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering

DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials

Aachen, Germany

Position

The DWI is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher to develop new granular biomaterials for tissue engineering purposes, including bioprinting.

Combining our expertise in Functional & Interactive Polymers and Advanced Macromolecular Materials for Medicine, we are developing functional and biological microgels that can provide ideal condition to support 3D cell growth via cell-microgel scaffold formation and additive manufacturing. This highly interdisciplinary position will cover material synthesis, microgel production via microfluidics and scale-up, 3D bioprinting, and cell culture. The successful candidate will work jointly with the Pich and De Laporte research group.

Your tasks

  • Biomaterial synthesis and functionalization;
  • Production of interactive and functional microgels via microfluidics;
  • Fabrication and testing of microfluidic chips using common production techniques;
  • Formation of cell-microgel granular scaffolds and bioinks for 3D bioprinting;
  • Active participation in the research activities of the research groups. Provide expert feedback and mentoring to MSc and PhD students;
  • Present your research findings both internally and at international scientific conferences and to publish papers in high impact peer-reviewed journals. Contribute to the writing of research grants.

Your profile

  • Completed a PhD in biomedical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related field;
  • Experience in biomaterial synthesis and functionalization;
  • Experience in microfluidics and hydrogel formation;
  • Experience in cell culture and sterile work is preferred;
  • Experience in 3D Bioprinting is preferred;
  • Highly motivated and capable to work independently;
  • Curious, driven by results, you thrive in an international and multidisciplinary environment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
