Researcher in Power System Digital Twin

Researcher in Power System Digital Twin

KTH - Royal Institute of Technology

Stockholm, Sweden

Job description

The Swedish electricity grid is undergoing rapid transformation driven by the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), electrification of transport and buildings, and increasing operational uncertainty. To support efficient and reliable grid operations, distribution system operators (DSOs) require advanced digital tools that can capture the dynamic behavior of real networks, assess grid conditions in near real time, and evaluate the impact of new technologies.

This project aims to develop a high-fidelity digital twin of a distribution grid, combining physics-based modeling, data analytics, and simulation techniques. The digital twin will integrate real operational data from low-voltage and medium-voltage networks, enabling improved situational awareness, flexibility assessment, and planning support. The project is funded by Swedish Energy Agency, in collaboration with E.ON.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree;
  • Research expertise in modeling, identification, simulation and optimization of distribution grids;
  • Very good knowledge in English, both written and verbal, as it is required in daily work;
  • Solid programming skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong expertise in at least one of the following: power system digitalization/deep reinforcement learning, or power system optimization and energy management, or digital twin/real-time simulation;
  • Experience in digital platform development is preferred;
  • Collaborative abilities;
  • Independence.
