The lab of Jeroen Raes (VIB, KU Leuven) is home to a vibrant, dynamic and international group of researchers in the field of gut microbial ecology and its clinical applications. Beyond our expertise in bioinformatics and metagenomic analysis we offer hands-on clinical experience through cohort studies. These include cross-sectional and longitudinal cohorts, time-series intervention trials (e.g., diet, FMT), and ex vivo gut models enabling advanced multi-omics analyses of these samples. In addition the lab also maintains a large culture collection, partially linked to genomic data, and operates state-of-the-art facilities for cultivating and analyzing colon bacteria to study their physiology, function and interactions. Finally, as members of VIB.AI, the newly established center for artificial intelligence in life sciences, we benefit from high-throughput computing infrastructure to support advanced data analysis and integration.
