The postdoctoral project is a central part of FibRe, a VINNOVA Competence Centre consisting of academic partners (Chalmers University of Technology and KTH Royal Institute of Technology), industry, and public organizations. This specific project will be carried out at FPT at KTH in close collaboration with research partners at Chalmers and with several companies (Stora Enso, Tetra Pak, Billerud, among others).
The aim of the project is to develop strategies and methods for producing lignocellulose-based materials with good thermoformability at elevated temperatures through softening, and to develop a mechanistic understanding of the effects achieved. The materials should have a high content of cellulose/lignocellulose.
Applicants for this postdoctoral position should have solid knowledge of wood, wood-based materials and experience in materials chemistry and polymer synthesis. A suitable background for this position is a PhD in polymer science, fibre technology, materials science, or an equivalent discipline.
The work will involve the preparation of plasticized lignocellulose-based materials with high fibre content using different methods, forming these materials, and characterizing their properties and structure at different length scales. The project benefits from access to a wide range of advanced laboratory equipment and instruments, as well as highly qualified colleagues. The goal is for the project to be conducted in close collaboration with researchers at Chalmers.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who wants to work at the forefront of research and develop materials and methods for a sustainable future based on renewable materials.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.
