Postdoc Responsible for Building Tomography Expertise with Capacity to Develop Organic Nanoparticles for Modulated Contrast

KTH - Royal Institute of Technology

Stockholm, Sweden

Job description

The postdoctoral project is a central part of FibRe, a VINNOVA Competence Centre consisting of academic partners (Chalmers University of Technology and KTH Royal Institute of Technology), industry, and public organizations. This specific project will be carried out at FPT at KTH in close collaboration with research partners at Chalmers and with several companies (Stora Enso, Tetra Pak, Billerud, among others).

The aim of the project is to develop strategies and methods for producing lignocellulose-based materials with good thermoformability at elevated temperatures through softening, and to develop a mechanistic understanding of the effects achieved. The materials should have a high content of cellulose/lignocellulose.

Applicants for this postdoctoral position should have solid knowledge of wood, wood-based materials and experience in materials chemistry and polymer synthesis. A suitable background for this position is a PhD in polymer science, fibre technology, materials science, or an equivalent discipline.

The work will involve the preparation of plasticized lignocellulose-based materials with high fibre content using different methods, forming these materials, and characterizing their properties and structure at different length scales. The project benefits from access to a wide range of advanced laboratory equipment and instruments, as well as highly qualified colleagues. The goal is for the project to be conducted in close collaboration with researchers at Chalmers.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who wants to work at the forefront of research and develop materials and methods for a sustainable future based on renewable materials.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree in Fibre and Polymer science or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made;
  • Research competence in the field of fiber and polymer science;
  • Proven experience of relevant advanced characterization techniques and the implementation of experiments at large-scale research infrastructures.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Documented experience of conducting research in the field of interactions in cellulose-based systems through scientific publications;
  • Pedagogical ability;
  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline;
  • Strong awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues, with particular emphasis on gender equality.

To successfully carry out the duties of the postdoctoral position and to collaborate effectively with other members of the research group and external partners, the applicant must:

  • Be able to speak and write scientific English and speak English fluently;
