Job description

Division of Polymer Technology is looking for a postdoc interested in sustainable and circular polymer materials with low environmental impact. The announced position focuses on the characterization, biodegradation testing and mechanical recycling of modified polylactide materials produced during EIC Pathfinder Challenge project “Biobased thermal resistant food packaging” (BORN). As overall challenging objective the project targets to design materials that will be biobased, biodegradable, compostable, recyclable and suitable for food contact applications.

The work tasks include

  • Laboratory work with spectroscopic and chromatographic characterization of modified PLA materials.
  • Testing the biodegradability of the materials in selected environments.
  • Evaluation of mechanical recyclability of the materials.
  • Evaluation and dissemination of the results in the form of scientific publications.
  • Participation in online and in person project meetings and reporting of results.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in relevant subject or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • For the position relevant scientific expertise demonstrated by high-quality publications in international scientific journals.
  • Good experimental laboratory skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
  • Research experience in polymer characterization, especially by spectroscopic techniques, and biodegradation experiments.
  • Research expertise, in the ability to inform about research and development work in written and orally.
