Join the Mathematical Institute of Utrecht University as an Assistant Professor in Mathematical Modelling. Together with the other staff members, you will educate the future generation of mathematicians and advance research. We welcome applications from the broad area of mathematical modelling, with a focus on real-world applications. This includes statistics, uncertainty quantification, data analysis, signal processing, (mathematical foundations of) machine learning, and dynamical systems.
In this position, you will divide your time roughly equally between research and teaching (approximately 50% each).
You will further develop your research line individually and in collaboration with other scientists, including colleagues from other departments. You will apply for external funds, supervise PhD candidates and postdocs, and organise relevant scientific meetings at national or international level. You will also actively initiate efforts, or continue to apply, your research to real-world problems in medicine, biology, climate, physics, imaging, or other domains.
You will teach courses at a variety of levels, from first-year Bachelor's to advanced Master's courses. Master’s courses can be taught either at the local level or as part of the national master programme, Mastermath. You will be involved in the supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses as well as smaller-scale projects. We value and encourage teaching innovation, offering University funding opportunities for developing new ideas and methods.
By engaging in the daily life of the Mathematical Institute and taking on positions of responsibility, you will help shape the future of the department.
You play an active and committed role in all aspects of academic life. Ideally, your eligibility is exemplified by:
Utrecht University expects all to be proficient in English (level C1). If you do not have a command of Dutch, we ask for a willingness to learn the language within 5 years. Utrecht University will support you in this.
