The Clinical Bioinformatics group focuses on the development of state-of-the-art tools for the analysis and interpretation of clinical and translational -omics data, covering a wide range of medical fields. These tools aim at supporting industry or hospitals to facilitate patient management, diagnostic and treatment-related activities. Following the expansion of the SIB Clinical Bioinformatics activities, we are seeking a Scientific Project Manager to coordinate operations related to the development of clinical/surveillance projects and platforms.
Job tasks
This person’s mission will be to:
- Lead and coordinate operations related to the development of clinical research projects and/or clinical tools serving the organization, analysis and interpretation of patient- and microbe-related data (e.g. omics data), especially in the field of pathogens surveillance;
- Lead the preparation of projects’ proposals, grants, documentation, general communication and scientific articles;
- Define functional specifications according to users’ needs, plan and prioritise tasks, and oversee development progress with agile methodologies to ensure high-quality deliverables and milestones;
- Anticipate and escalate planning or budget deviations to the Director of Clinical Bioinformatics;
- Deliver reports to funding bodies as planned;
- Manage projects’ specific websites (e.g. Wordpress);
- Coordinate with SIB internal groups and teams (Communications, Legal and Tech Transfer, Biodata Resources, IT) for all matters requiring their expertise;
- Represent SIB at projects’ scientific/advisory/executive boards and actively contribute to their activities, also taking on (co-)lead roles where relevant;
- Organise meetings/events and lead Swiss-wide working groups around pathogens bioinformatics, to reach consensus on common needs and practices harmonization;
- Coordinate and align activities with external partners, including the SIB Centre for Pathogen Bioinformatics, Swiss Federal Authorities, clinical laboratories, reference centers, etc.;
- Represent SIB and its activities (e.g. SPSP) in national and global initiatives;
- Trigger the initiation and setup of new activities and projects, with internal or external partners;
- Contribute to know-how dissemination around clinical bioinformatics and personalized health (training and outreach);
- Travel mostly within Switzerland as required to collaborate with partners and other SIB groups (mainly day trips).
Profile requirements
Essential
- Engineer degree or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or equivalent;
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of practice as lead in multi-disciplinary, multi-site project management;
- Minimum 3 years of practice in microbial genomic;
- Excellent knowledge of Python;
- Demonstrated track record in grants and scientific articles writing;
- Good understanding of the specificities of bioinformatics applied to clinical or surveillance practice;
- Some knowledge in information technology and software design;
- Team spirit and strong interpersonal skills;
- Effective multi-tasking and organizational skills;
- Capacity to respect deadlines and priorities;
- Demonstrated experience in multi-cultural team work;
- Ability to identify obstacles and propose solutions;
- Flexibility, adaptability;
- Strict sense of confidentiality and discretion;
- Demonstrable commitment, energy and enthusiasm to drive the activity forward;
- Excellent oral/written communication skills.
