The subject field encompasses fundamental and applied studies in process metallurgy, specifically pyrometallurgy, focusing on process phenomena that enable the transition to sustainable, energy- and resource-efficient metal production. It includes the development of new metallurgical knowledge and processes supporting increased recycling, substitution of critical raw materials, and reduction of environmental impacts from metal production and its by-products. The subject field also includes research promoting circularity and the circular economy to advance a modern, sustainable metal industry.
The position includes research and teaching in the subject field. Within research the assistant professor is expected to contribute to the development of new areas of research in the subject field including both experimental and theoretical studies. The assistant professor will be expected to create new networks within and outside KTH and actively apply for research funding. The assistant professor will be expected to teach at first, second, and third cycles within the subject field. This includes the development of existing and new courses. In additional the Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to the operation and development of educational programs within the subject field and to supervise thesis projects at first and second cycles along with third cycle supervision. The Assistant Professor is expected to contribute to the fulfilment of KTH's objectives in sustainable development.
The assistant professor will be given opportunity to develop their independence as researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance.
