Post-doctoral Research Associate in Molecular Photoacoustic Imaging

The Institute of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences II is offering the full-time (100 %) position of post-doctoral research associate (m-f-d). The position is available immediately for a fixed term of 3 years (with an option to extend the contract by a further 3 years). The medical physics group is working in the field of biomedical photoacoustic imaging and sensor technology. The project will be focused on the development of experimental methods for molecular photoacoustic/thermoacoustic imaging. The position offers the opportunity to work towards an academic career and scientific independence via, for example, a habilitation or a fellowship (e.g., the DFG Emmy-Noether-Programme, ERC Starting Grant).
Job Responsibilities:
- Development of methods or technologies for biomedical photoacoustic imaging from basic research to in vivo applications
- Teaching in physics and medical physics courses of the institute (4 SWS, in German)
- Publication of scientific results, applying for independent research funding
Requirements:
- Desire to pursue an academic career by working towards group leader, junior professor positions
- Completed university degree and doctorate in physics, medical physics, biophysics, or a relevant natural or engineering science, e.g. biomedical engineering
- Creativity and scientific curiosity
- Research experience in experimental physics, ideally in fields compatible with the activities of the group
- Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, Matlab, LabView)
- Knowledge and experience in some of the following fields: functional/molecular imaging, contrast agents, optics, ultrasound/acoustics, device control, signal processing, mathematical simulation
- Experience in independent planning, realisation and communication of scientific studies
- Ability to work in a team, self-organisation, good communication skills
- Experience in teaching and supervision desirable
- Very good written and spoken English. Fluent (or willing to learn) German
