Senior Researcher to Lead the Physical Simulation Group

IMDEA Materials has opened a new position of Senior Researcher in the following area: Physical simulation of metallurgical processes (including rolling, forging, casting, welding, additive manufacturing and joining of dissimilar materials), analysis of the mechanical and application-related properties of metallic materials, investigation of processing–microstructure–property relationships, and research on refractory materials.

The research activities should be well-aligned with challenges faced by the EU industry and demonstrate the potential for strong collaborations with other research groups in the institute and leading research institutions in Europe.

Requirements

  • PhD in Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline (compulsory);
  • Fluent English (oral and written) (compulsory).

Scholarship:

  • Well-established international reputation and continued professional growth and recognition, demonstrated by:
    • Publication and citation record;
    • Technology transfer record: patents, software, industrial partnerships;
    • Principal investigator of research projects funded by national or international bodies or industry;
    • Awards and honours;
    • Invited/keynote/plenary lectures at national and international conferences;
    • International experience and international research network.

Leadership:

  • Ability to develop an independent research group with internationally recognized scientific and/or technological achievements;
  • Funding record;
  • Advising of doctoral and master thesis;
  • Organization of national and international conferences and workshops;
  • Coordination of National and/or European research projects.

Experience and contributions in the area of Physical Simulation:

  • Proven expertise in physical simulation of a wide range of metallurgical processes, including casting, welding, forging, rolling, ultra-rapid processing and additive manufacturing. Ability in the development of novel physical simulation tools;
  • The research activities should address the challenges faced by the EU industry and demonstrate the potential for strong collaborations with other research groups in the institute, as well as with the leading EU research institutions and top industrial companies.
