We are currently seeking to recruit a Chief Medical Scientist/Chief Biomedical Scientist to join our Blood Sciences Department at the Eurofins Biomnis laboratory in Sandyford, Dublin18.

This is a very high-level role in the Blood Sciences department, and we hope to attract someone with extensive experience in Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Haematology. Job Description

Reporting to the Laboratory Services Manager, the Chief Medical/Biomedical Scientist will have responsibility to oversee day to day operations in Blood Sciences by managing and organising workload and resources to deliver accurate and timely results. Ensure provision of a high quality, patient-focussed laboratory service in line with ISO15189 requirements. Work closely with and support The Laboratory Services Manager and Medical Director on issues related to the department. Lead and develop a large team of laboratory staff through effective and professional communication, management of staff training and contribution to a learning environment. Work towards achieving short and long-term departmental goals and quality objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and supervision to employees;
  • Ensure staff recruitment and selection occurs with regards to replacement and new staff;
  • Provide technical support to all staff;
  • Ensure work scheduling and assignment of duties;
  • Review of staff performance;
  • Provide recommendations on all staff increases, promotions etc. when required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Masters’ Degree in Biomedical/Biological Sciences.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a medical testing laboratory, with at least 3 years in a laboratory leadership role;
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and reporting blood films for Morphology.

Any required licences/certifications or membership:

  • Chief Medical Scientist: CORU registration as Medical Scientist;
  • Chief Biomedical Scientist: HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to identify and implement operational processes to the standard of best practice in order to optimise use of resources;
  • Proven ability to work and deliver services within agreed budgets;
  • Encourages lab personnel towards professional growth and development by sharing information.
