Research Assistant Position in Genome Engineering of Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells

FMI - Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research

Basel, Switzerland

The group of Dr. Luca Giorgetti at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) is seeking a motivated Research Assistant specializing in genome engineering of mammalian cells to support current and future projects in the lab.

The Giorgetti group studies how the three-dimensional folding of mammalian genomes controls gene expression - specifically, how enhancer sequences control transcription from promoters. The team uses a multidisciplinary approach combining genome engineering, molecular biology, imaging and modelling.

In this role you will

  • Design, generate and culture genetically modified mouse cell embryonic stem lines using state-of-the-art genome editing tools (CRISPR/Cas9, transposons, site-specific recombinases).
  • Carry out experiments using molecular biological techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with graduate students and postdocs in the lab as well as external collaborators.

About you

  • You hold a Master’s degree or have equivalent level of experience in biology, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • You have experience with mammalian tissue culture, standard molecular biology techniques, and genome engineering technologies.
  • You have excellent organization and planning skills.
  • You communicate clearly and effectively in English and enjoy working collaboratively in a multicultural team.
