Main responsibilities:

Management responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of engineers, scientists and technicians in the development and implementation of new capsules, new capsules applications or related programs/projects in line with the R&D strategy and timelines;
  • Define roadmap for the innovation projects in the scope of R&D, plan and coordinate projects execution while proactively managing uncertainties;
  • Develop short-to-mid term plans and priorities to enable optimal lab functioning, ensure follow up and coordinate execution of actions;
  • Suggest budget needs for lab functioning and continuous improvement initiatives to the line manager;
  • Identify development opportunities and training requirements for direct reports and submit requests for internal, external resources as required to the line manager;
  • Ensure work environment and working conditions are appropriate for optimal performance and for achieving results, and if improvements or streamlining is needed, develop and implement solutions.

Technical expertise:

  • Apply expert knowledge to identify opportunities for improvement in existing processes/technologies and drives towards solutions implementation;
  • Find and execute on openings to utilize new materials to improve the existing or develop new products and/or expand capsule applications;
  • Act as subject matter expert with internal stakeholders and in communication with customers and suppliers;
  • Act as technical R&D expert lead in complex, strategic, new hard empty capsules development projects through the different phases of the Stage Gate process.

  • Maintain accurate and timely records to appropriate quality standard for self and team, prepare high quality technical analyses and reports for internal or external use;
  • Apply and promote the relevant safety, quality and data integrity principles in his work and inspires the same in team members;
  • Promote right-the-first-time principle;
  • Apply expertise to identify key challenges and opportunities in relevant area of expertise and propose innovative solutions to address the same;
  • Take ownership in implementing good lab practice within the HC R&D group and with other teams and coordinates continuous improvement initiatives.

Main Requirements:

  • Required degree: Master; PhD (preferred);
  • Field of study: Materials science, Chemical engineering, Food sciences, Pharmaceutical sciences, Polymer sciences, Chemistry;
  • Industrial experience in an R&D environment;
  • Pharmaceutical Excipients industry and/or Food industry preferred;
  • Languages: English (business fluent); French (business fluent preferred);
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, ability to work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders;
  • First people management experience.
